Photo of You’ll Be Glad You Did.

I love a good book. I also like movies, television, sports, musicals, exercising, concerts, traveling, eating, and a whole host of other activities. But I seriously enjoy a good book. Last week, I mentioned a list I have been compiling based on various other lists of the top 100 books that “everyone should read before they die.” As my list began to come together, I
was surprised at how many I had never read (even during the Pizza Hut Challenge… if you were a child of the 80s, you know what I’m talking about)! Some I had never even heard of, but others — many of which are familiar classics – I’ve simply just never read.

David Copperfield by Charles Dickens.
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie.
Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe.
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.
War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy.
Just to name a few.

Along with 94 others (more if you count the titles that represent series, i.e., The Chronicle of Narnia), I’ve got my work cut out. But as I mentioned at the onset, I really do enjoy a good book. Even more than that, though, I enjoy a good conversation. Which is why, above any book you could put on any list, the Bible is in a league of its own.

You see, it’s not just words on a page. It’s God’s Word. To me. To you. To us.
God.
Speaking.

And if the Psalms teach us nothing else, He wants us to speak also. He wants us to share our hearts, thoughts, desires, struggles, and celebrations with Him. He wants us to ask questions, seek to understand Him better, and enter deeper into our relationship with Him.

So, He gave us His Word… as many will often call it, His letter to us. Reading doesn’t have to be your thing (but if it is, I will gladly share my “must read 100” challenge list with you). But I do hope, if you haven’t already, that you might give the conversation a chance. I know you’ll be glad you did.
