In their book, Famous at Home, Josh and Christi Straub write the following:
God created the natural world with a cosmic rhythm of sunsets and sunrises that mark time into days, weeks, months, and years. He also embedded rhythms into human bodies. Consider the cadence of your heartbeat. The whooshing pulse of blood flowing through your veins. The tempo of breathing in and out. Unbroken physical rhythms are what keep your body fully alive.
Similarly, God created rhythms to help us grow and mature spiritually in a chaotic world vying for our attention 24-7.
As we continue our Devoted journey, God draws us to these rhythms as we focus on both the individuals and the church family God has called us to be.
Rhythm #1: Personal Devotion (02/09)
Rhythm #2: Family Worship (02/16)
From the very beginning, the family was intended to be the original LIFE Group, the primary environment where we learn to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and strength.
You don’t have to overthink it. It doesn’t have to be complicated.
- read God’s word
- pray with each other and for each other
- sing a song or two
And know that we’re always an email, text, or phone call away, ready to provide resources and suggestions.
Rhythm #3: Corporate Gatherings (02/16)
I appreciate how one pastor/friend of mine wrote it:
By preparing for, better understanding, and fully participating in corporate worship, we fuel our souls each Sunday to delight in the Lord all week. And as Sunday builds upon Sunday, we prepare ourselves for heaven.
These are the rhythms of the Gospel.
The Greek word for church is ekklesia. Ek means out of or from, and kaleo means to call. Before we are anything else – as individuals or as the church called First Baptist Indialantic – we are a people that have been called out by the Gospel.
And because of it, we are, indeed, fully alive!
