Despite it being forty years ago, I can remember my dad leading our church in Savannah, GA, through a building campaign. I can’t recall what we were building at the time, but I remember the theme: Together We Build. I may still have one of the pens… they were shaped like little hammers, so I grabbed as many as I could find.
In the first six chapters of Nehemiah, the emphasis is on the task of (re)building the wall. Chapter 7 then begins a shift as Nehemiah begins focusing on (re)building the people. At some point in the message each week, I have tried to include a reference to the map of Nehemiah’s wall.
There was a moment several weeks ago when I first introduced the picture – that the Holy Spirit began unpacking for me some of the next steps He has in store for our faith family,
next steps that shape a strategy for making loving, serving, and reaching Brevard County and beyond.
Specifically, I can remember looking at the picture and being drawn to the box in the northern center of the city. The box represents the physical temple where the people of God gathered together, worshiped together, and then were sent out together to do the work they’d been equipped, enabled, and assigned to do… in the places and areas where they lived, worked, and did life… Together!
Every time I look at that picture, I see Brevard County, and in my mind, I move the box a little south and a little east… Church family, at some point in the near future, we are going to start having deeper, more specific conversations about rebuilding that little box, a God-sized task, to say the least. But I believe what God IS ALREADY DOING isn’t just about the build, but even more about the together we.
I believe God is speaking to us, calling us to our assignments, and preparing us for revival. Remember, revival begins with the faithful proclamation of God’s Word and the faithful response of God’s people.
Together!
