This week, hurricane season decided to try and take one of its first swipes at us, and, like all of you, we spent the next couple of days responding to all the different reports and instructions, as well as the weather itself. That’s what we do when there’s a storm. A few Sundays ago, many of you allowed us to begin praying for you as you respond to the different “storms” life throws at you.
First and foremost, thank you for the incredible privilege of coming alongside you in prayer. James tells us toward the conclusion of his letter,
“Is anyone among you suffering? He should pray.”
That’s what we do when there’s a storm. Building on that foundation – because prayer is our power source – we felt led to respond to one request in particular, a reoccurring desire throughout the various prayer cards, emails, and conversations: Would you pray for our marriage? Yes, we did. Yes, we are. And, yes, we will.
While we continue to pray, we also want to provide some tangible opportunities for us to come alongside each other for encouragement and equipping.
Starting October 2, the next four Wednesdays will be focused on building healthy marriages! To kick it off, our friends Tom and Rhonda Hufty will be back in town.
James Merritt, a pastor, prolific Christian writer, host of Touching Lives, and one of the most dynamic, Gospel-centered preachers on the air today, described marriage as
“the first, the greatest, and the most sacred institution known to man. In the sovereignty and wisdom of God, it was the home, not the state, the school, or even the church, that was first created and divinely intended to be the cornerstone of all life.”
We know we cannot address every situation or answer every question in just four weeks. But we can encourage each other and build community together. That’s also what we do when there’s a storm, and even when there’s not.
