Photo of SHINE.

That’s the name of the Special Needs Ministry at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, our friends and partners from Marietta, Georgia (who are with us this morning). Please be sure to find them, and let them know how glad we are they are here!

Here’s how their page on the website reads:
Creating a place where everyone can SHINE. SHINE, our special needs ministry, exists to provide community, inclusion, and a place to belong for individuals with special needs and for their families.

When I read that purpose statement, Jesus’ words from the Sermon on the Mount immediately came to mind:

You are the light of the world.
A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket,
but rather on a lampstand,
and it gives light for all who are in the house.
In the same way,
let your light shine before others,
so that they may see your good works
and give glory to your Father in heaven.

(Matthew 5:14-16)

When we introduced this unique VBS week three years ago, I wasn’t entirely sure what God had in mind. I’m still not. But, as it has grown each year and as we are slowly starting to add other events here and there throughout the year, I find myself incredibly humbled and grateful every time the Lord allows us to be a small part of these families’ lives.

Lynn, thank you and your team for investing in us. Thank you for reminding us that every life is an opportunity to shine for Christ; every life is an opportunity to brag on God.

Jen, Cynthia, and all who are volunteering your time, thank you for keeping us moving forward and helping us be available for whatever God wants to do in the days ahead. I’m reminded… we are remarkably and wondrously made.

So, let your light shine!
