What exactly is a resolution?
Resolution: a firm decision to do or not do something; the quality of being determined or resolute resolute admirably purposeful, determined, and unwavering.

So, if that’s the case, how is it that more often than not, it only takes us a few weeks to break our New Year’s Resolution? And let’s be honest, I’m being generous by saying “a few weeks.” It usually only takes me a couple of days.

Are we aiming too high? Are we setting unachievable goals? Are we being unrealistic with ourselves?
Possibly. Or, maybe, we’re not focused in just the right direction.

Consider the following:
Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith.
Hebrews 12:1b– 2a (CSB)

Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust also in Him, and He will do it.
Psalm 37:4-5 (CSB)

Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m still trying to lose that last 10– 15. And I’ve already started preparing for the Manatee Hustle 5K; who knows, I might even try something more challenging later this year. I’m also still hoping to learn how to surf. These are all good, commendable goals, and I plan on giving them my best effort.

But what are the Lord’s goals for me? For us? For this year?
How resolved am I? Are we – to achieving His desires for us, for our faith family, for the community He has called us to serve?

Over the next several weeks, we’ll be talking about some very intentional plans and purposes God has for us as a faith family, commitments birthed in Scripture, and lived out by faith. Church family, it is both a challenging and exciting time to be a part of what God is doing. May we be resolved to keep our eyes on Jesus and do all that we do for His
glory!
