Last week, I mentioned that I have subscribed to The Bible Recap, hosted by Tara Leigh Cobble, as part of my daily Bible reading. I start by listening to the assigned passage of Scripture, then press play on the day’s podcast. The music hits, and Cobble greets her audience with “Hey, Bible Readers!” and we dive into that day’s truth.
The average Recap lasts about 7-8 minutes; it’s not long. But don’t mistake brevity for a lack of depth. There’s nothing shallow about Ms. Cobble’s teaching.
As she begins to wrap up each episode, she’ll ask the same question:
What was your God-shot today?
and then she’ll conclude the podcast with the same statement:
He’s where the joy is.
As I was praying and preparing for last Sunday’s message on Rhythm #5—Sacrificial Generosity, those concluding remarks—along with Jesus’ words in Matthew 6—provided the encouragement I needed as we began a conversation that can often be a bit sensitive.
In the midst of His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says to the crowds, “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” As Randy Alcorn states in his work, The Treasure Principle, Jesus takes the profound truth, “You can’t take it with you,” and adds a stunning qualification. By telling us to store up treasures for ourselves in Heaven, He gives us a remarkable corollary, which he calls the Treasure Principle:
You can’t take it with you – but you can send it on ahead.
Ahead.
Heavenward.
Home.
Eternity.
In His presence.
Where the joy is… and will always be… forever.
