Photo of Did you know?

… the manatee’s closest living relative is the elephant?
(the manatee snout is considered a shrunken version of the elephant’s trunk)

… manatees don’t have eyelashes or eyelids?
(their eye muscles close in a circular motion, like an aperture on a camera)

… manatees can grow new teeth up to six times during their lifetime?
(they spend most of their time awake eating, chewing, grinding their teeth down)

… a manatee can move each side of its lips independently?
(the flexibility allows they to “grab” plants and draw them into its mouth)

… most manatees live 30 to 40 years?
(the oldest known manatee – Snooty – died at the age of 69 at the Bishop Museum in Bradenton, FL)

… manatees lungs lie along their backbones rather than along rib cages like most mammals.
(this allows the animal to control its breathing as well as its buoyancy)

I’m not sure any of this information will help you win Saturday’s 5K, but I do know this much:

  1. We are so very grateful for every sponsor that is supporting our race this year! (make sure you check out our FB page or look on the back of the race shirt and take an opportunity to thank and support these friends and businesses)
  2. We still need volunteers for race day! (whether it’s greeting folks when they arrive, cheering the runners on along the course, or helping us clean up at the end, we need as many hands on deck as possible; students, you can receive community service hours)
  3. We are still open for more runners to join us! Online registration closes Thursday, but folks can still show up on race day to sign up and run, and we hope they do!

Lastly, you can know this as well:
100% of the monies raised will be focused on ministry and missions throughout Brevard County and beyond as we love, serve and reach people with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ!
