Let me ask you a question. Have you ever gone to the store to buy some things only to find out when you got home that you were overcharged for one or several items? What were your first thoughts? They cheated me, or it might have been just an honest mistake. Regardless, now you can return to the store’s customer service to get your money.

The next day, you go to the same store and purchase several items you need, only to find out when you get home that you were not charged for some of the items you purchased. Again, what were your first thoughts; they should have been more careful to ensure they charged me for everything, so it was their fault. Therefore, I do not need to return to pay for the items and spend my time and gas! And besides, I had to return yesterday to correct a different mistake.

Hmmm … Neither of these situations is your fault. Are you just having a run of bad luck? … Nope, this is how your heavenly Father teaches us in the classroom of life. He allows situations in our or our family’s lives to show us our authentic selves (the part no one sees on Sunday in church).

Luke 16:10-11 (NLT) … Jesus, speaking to the Pharisees, told them … “Unless you are faithful in small matters, you won’t be faithful in large ones. If you cheat even a little, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. And if you are untrustworthy with worldly wealth, who will trust you with the riches of heaven?”

Luke 16:13 (NLT) … Jesus continued … “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

Prayer Prompts:

  • Ask God to remind you of times you passed the Master’s test.
  • Think of times when you correctly resolved these issues with a good attitude
  • Praise God for His ongoing presence in your life and commit to serving the Master daily
