This past Monday night, Julie and I hosted a group of friends at our home. We cooked dinner (well, technically, Julie cooked, but I did help—just ask her!) and spent the evening talking about what God is doing here at First Baptist, specifically disciple-making and the direction we sense God moving us as a Church Family. As we begin to share more and
more in the days and weeks to come, I pray you will be as excited as we were sitting around the table.
As Julie and I were clearing the table and starting to do the dishes (I really did help with that!) I turned to her and shared a few thoughts:
- after a full day of work and school, getting the house together and dinner prepared took a significant amount of effort
- not all of us had childcare, so there were several “interruptions” throughout the evening… little people constantly needing something or needing to tell us something (can you imagine?!)
- we were tired after everybody left, but quickly realized we still had a tomorrow we needed to prepare for
- evenings like that are a sacrifice… but they are also completely worth it
A friend of mine helps lead a church in the Nashville area, and he uses a phrase I heard one of our friends share when we were wrapping up our time together Monday night.
Information and inspiration happen in rows. Transformation happens in circles.
There’s just something special about being together. Sitting around the table. Enjoying a meal. Discussing God’s Word. Praying.
Simply doing life… together.
