Young people will be discipled. They will either be discipled by social media, celebrities, unhealthy ideologies, false beliefs, etc… OR They can be discipled by their parents, church, the Gospel etc.. May it be the latter for the sake of a whole generation.
Shane Pruitt
Ephesians 2:8 – 10 tells us we have been saved by grace through faith and that we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared ahead of time
for us to do. … for good works … which God prepared ahead of time.
Over the next several weeks, you’re going to be reading and hearing about a number of opportunities where you can get plugged into all that God is doing here at FBI. A few Sundays ago, I shared the above quote from Shane Pruitt, including it in the handout as well as during the message. In doing so, I also confessed my concern that when we begin these kinds of emphases, people think we’re simply trying to fill spots. Not a chance.
The truth is, I don’t know that there’s a more important “good work” that we’ve been given than the task of discipling our young people. From singing over our newborns to praying over them on Graduate Recognition Sunday, the Lord has entrusted us – their families and their Church – with this incredible privilege and responsibility.
I also made the following statement that same Sunday:
We’ll train you. We’ll equip you. We’ll walk alongside you.
We’ll be there when it’s challenging.
We’ll fill in for you when you need a break.
We’ll be there to celebrate every victory.
I said it, and I meant it.
If discipling our young people (at any level) is the good work that God prepared ahead of time for you, it is our tremendous joy to serve you as you impact the Kingdom in this way! And be certain, you’re impacting the Kingdom!
